Benefits of lymphatic massage

Are you recovering from surgery or living with chronic illness? If so, you may find benefit in a lymphatic massage at The Health Hub. And with your extras cover you may be able to claim some or all of the cost with your health fund.

Lymphatic massage stimulates the flow of lymph throughout the body and lymph nodes to help built up fluid to move from your tissues back into your blood circulation. It’s a light, gentle massage where your therapist uses circular movements and long strokes to direct the flow of lymph in your body, helping your body to flush out unwanted toxins.

You may benefit from a lymphatic massage if you:

  • suffer from an autoimmune condition that causes inflammation in your body
  • have a condition that could be helped by alleviating swelling and flushing out toxins, such as lupus, Hashimoto’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, multiple sclerosis, or diabetes
  • have had lymph nodes removed as part of cancer treatment, and are suffering from lymphoedema (swelling)
  • have lymphoedema for another reason
  • have lipoedema, a build up of fatty tissue in the arms and legs
  • have had liposuction and want to reduce your scar tissue and lymphatic fluid
  • have Dercum disease, a disorder that causes painful growths of fatty tissue in the body
  • would like a general detox and energy boost.

Lymphatic massage at The Health Hub

Massage therapists that specialise in the unique requirements of lymphatic drainage can be hard to find, but it’s important to know that the person providing your massage knows how to provide relief in a safe and comfortable way.

Lymphatic massage is one specialty of our therapist Anna Dawson from Rub Downes Massage. She is experienced in moving lymph from tissues to lymph nodes, easing swelling and providing relief to her clients.

What happens at your lymphatic massage appointment?

When you make an appointment with Anna, she will discuss your specific needs with you, and where you’d like her to focus. She will ensure your massage is safe for you before she starts. Lymphatic massage is a gentle treatment, which is usually very safe. There are some circumstances where lymphatic massage may not be appropriate, such as:

  • if you have a heart condition
  • if you have kidney failure
  • if you have blood clots
  • if you have an infection

If you’re unsure, Anna can talk you through the process and provide expert advice on whether lymphatic massage is right for you.
